Construction at Nicolasa Cruz National Hospital

In 2007, HEAR funded the construction of a dormitory and a supply storage room at the national hospital in Jalapa. These spaces are used for medical teams and groups that assist at the hospital.

Performing Arts Scholarship

In 2007, HEAR extended a full tuition scholarship to Alexandrea Tocco (Cape Coral, FL), singer and actress, to attend Interlochen Academy of the Arts, a specialized arts school in Michigan. After completing the program there, she decided to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she currently pursues a Bachelors in Fine Arts.

Basketball Camp

In 2006 and 2007, HEAR provided funding for a small group of youth from Chicago’s inner-city to attend a summer basketball camp outside of the city. Besides teaching basketball skills, the camp also fostered leadership and teamwork.

HEAR Feeds Program

HEAR purchased nearly 80,000 pounds of frozen chicken thighs and wings which were distributed to families in need in Chicago and Detroit the week before Thanksgiving 2009. In Chicago, HEAR worked with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Chicago Christian Industrial League, and Alderwoman JoAnn Thompson of the 16th ward in West Englewood to identify families in need and to distribute the food. In Metro Detroit, HEAR collaborated with Northville Civic Concern to identify 21 recipient organizations (all of which are food pantries, soup kitchens, or organizations that support families that are homeless) which gifted the chicken to families. Over 7,600 families were reached!
