Hijas directs a jewelry and sewing program with the residents of the Casa Hogar Marta & Maria, an all-girl orphanage in Jalapa, Guatemala. Hijas teaches the residents the skills of sewing and jewelry making while working with them to create and implement successful business models for selling their own products. The goal of the program is to provide an income for the home, and more importantly, to lead the girls towards lives of opportunity and independence. HEAR has supported Hijas’ efforts since May 2007.
