The week before Thanksgiving in 2009 HEAR purchased nearly 80,000 pounds of frozen chicken thighs and wings which were distributed to families in need in Chicago and Detroit. HEAR worked with several social service organizations throughout Chicago to distribute the food to those in need. In Metro Detroit, HEAR collaborated with Northville Civic Concern to identify 21 recipient organizations (all of which are food pantries, soup kitchens, or organizations that support families that are homeless) which gifted the chicken to families. Over 7,600 families were reached in 2009. Given the tremendous response HEAR has since adopted this project as a program and will run it twice in the Chicago area in 2010. The most recent distribution took place on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Thousands of families were reached through this program over Mother’s Day weekend.
